So many books. So little time.

Since I was a little girl I have always loved to read.  I remember being tucked into bed by my parents and getting kissed goodnight and as soon as they left my room I would go under my blanket with a flashlight and a book.  There’s something magical about a book, it’s ability to whisk you away to another world full of different characters and stories.  The past year I went through a reading slump, with getting married, moving and redecorating my new place, I was never able to fully commit to a book.  I realized that I truly missed reading and decided I need to make time for this love of mine.  I usually find myself reading the same genre, either comedy/drama or gothic/family saga.  For my current read I decided to go for something a little different.  As I was browsing the paperbacks at Coles, I came across “The Couple Next Door” by Shari Lapena and after reading the back I found a potential winner.  I’m half way through the book and I just can’t put it down.  It’s about a terrible crime that takes place one night and the suspicion is immediately on the parents but as secrets unravel during the investigation, the truth seems more complicated.  I’ve never read much mystery/suspense but this is book definitely has me wanting to explore this genre.  A few other books that are on my must-read list are “The Death of Mrs. Westaway” by Ruth Ware, which is about a person who mistakenly receives a letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance and how she tries to claim the money.  Also, “All We Even Wanted” by Emily Giffin, which is about how a scandal has two very different families collide while they try to protect their loved ones.  Another that I’ve been eyeing is “Crazy Rich Asians” by Kevin Kwan which I would like to read before the movie releases this August.  I’ve been making sure to carry a book with me where ever I go which is helping me read more and also reducing my screen time from my laptop and phone.  Best part is that a book doesn’t run out of battery.
