Sweet Dreams

We all know that we should be getting eight hours of sleep each night, but the key is to make those eight hours restful enough that we wake up rejuvenated.  This is the time our body heals and recovers from the day which is very important for our brain to function.  Achieving a restful sleep can be a struggle as there are so many distractions to keep our mind occupied but with a few simple tips you will find falling asleep and staying asleep much easier.

Banish the Light
I absolutely love natural light all throughout my home but I highly recommend investing in some blackout curtains for the bedroom.  These will assist you in falling asleep and staying asleep.  I find these especially helpful during the summer months with the sun sets late and rises early.  As an alternative you can also use one of the cute sleep masks available at Winners, over your eyes to block out any light that may disturb your sleep.

Temperature Control
Temperature is especially important for me.  There is nothing worse than spending your night tossing and turning.  Make sure your bedroom temperature is comfortable and a little cool as it will make it much easier for you to fall asleep.  Showcase has great portable coolers that will clean and cool while being eco-friendly.  These coolers don’t require batteries and you can easily move it from room to room, making it super convenient.

Ambience
Putting your phone down can be one the hardest things to do before bed but our phones are the biggest culprit of emitting blue light that disrupts our sleep cycle.  Next time you are at Pearle Vision, Kodak Lens or Visions Healthcare, ask about adding a blue light filter to your lens.  Turning down the brightness on your phone and downloading a blue light filter app on your phone can also really help.  Something I do that helps me relax is that I try to make sure my light bulbs are warm toned and not cool toned.  I find the warmer tone light bulbs give a much more cozier feeling helping you to unwind.  Stop by Home Hardware to find the perfect light bulbs for your bedroom.

Noise-free Zone
If you sleep in a quiet neighbourhood, you may not have to worry too much about noise but if you live on a busy block with lots of traffic then noise can definitely be a hindrance to your sleep.  Rexall has a wide variety of ear plugs that will help you block out all the noise and guide you towards peaceful sleep.  I would suggest picking up any of the foam variety as they are soft and won’t hurt you while you sleep and switch sides throughout the night.

Along with these tips make sure you are setting aside 8 hours for your sleep, whether that means going to bed earlier or starting your day a little later.  We all need proper sleep to function and a good night’s sleep helps us put our best foot forward each day.
