Self-Care Sunday

Posted on: August 2, 2020

We all know the importance and benefits of incorporating self-care into our routines.  Let’s face it, making time for yourself can sometimes be a challenge.  I know this to be true for myself first hand, it can be easy to forget about personal well-being when distracted with other responsibilities and priorities.  I try to allocate Sundays as the perfect time to integrate mindful self-care, inner reflection, and use it as a day to replenish for the coming week.  Lately I’ve been enjoying a newly included part of my Sunday self-care – journaling. After picking up one from Coles (currently using “The Five Minute Journal”) it has been proven to be a great therapeutic outlet for self-expression, managing emotions, and letting my mind unplug for a few moments.  I love putting on a simple DIY face mask in the meantime while clearing my thoughts . . . maybe even having a nutritious smoothie to sip on? Taking care of the inner self is as important as addressing the outer.  Having a healthy beverage, giving my skin some extra attention, and nurturing my mental health is a perfect self-care trio!

Below is a quick and accessible at-home Honey and Yogurt Face Mask.  A highly recommended and refreshing Mango Green Smoothie is definitely something worth trying out on your next self-care day!

Honey & Yogurt Face Mask

Only using two ingredients that you might already have in your kitchen, this mask is definitely a holy grail treatment.  Honey, having numerous beauty benefits, nourishing properties, and healing abilities, gives your skin extra radiance and moisture.  Yogurt’s high probiotic nature works to combat fine lines and wrinkles, dullness and dryness.  The cooling and velvety consistency of this mask will definitely make you feel like you’re at the spa.  The measurements are as follows:

  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • 2 tbsp of plain yogurt

Combine and mix well.  Apply liberally to face, omitting mouth and eye areas.  Leave on for 15-20 minutes, rinse, and pat dry.

*Patch test prior to full application in case of allergic reaction.

Mango Green Smoothie

One of my personal favorites!  High in Vitamin C and Potassium, it sneaks in extra nutrients to strengthen and nourish your immune system.  This smoothie tastes like a tropical getaway, and all ingredients can be found at Metro!

  • 1 ½ cups frozen mango
  • One ripe banana
  • 1 cup baby spinach or kale
  • ¾ cup of liquid (regular milk/non-dairy alternative or juice of choice )

Combine all ingredients in a blender.  Blend on high until all components have emulsified together.  Serve and enjoy!
