One Sip At A Time

You’ve probably noticed that most restaurants and take out joints have gone “plastic straw-free” now.  This is exciting news!  Most plastic doesn’t decompose or biodegrade and ends up in our landfills for hundreds of years.  Plastic that find its way into the ocean can be extremely dangerous to the animals.  Instead of plastic straws you will now find paper straws as an alternative in most places.  I am all for saving the planet but the paper straws don’t really work for me.  When sitting in your drink for awhile the straw can go soft and start to dissolve.  I also don’t like the taste of paper while I drink my green smoothie.  In addition, paper straws are not the best option as they are not reusable at all.  For alternatives, consider steel straws and silicone straws.  Steel straws are sturdy and long lasting and won’t stain.  With silicone straws, you will be able to find them in many colours which is great for kids.  These are dishwasher safe making is super is convenient.  You can find steel and silicone straws at Kitchen Stuff Plus.  My personal favourite are glass straws.  You can find these at Winners in various styles and sizes.  They are attractive and look super chic.  Don’t worry about the glass breaking as you can get shatter-resistant glass straws.  Make sure to head over to Cloverdale to grab your eco-friendly straws.
