Jane’s Walk

Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. On the first weekend of May every year, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.

The Cloverdale Common hosted two Jane’s Walks over the weekend of May 4-5 that focused on role that Cloverdale Mall has played in the community.  Since 1956, Cloverdale Mall has been not just a shopping centre but a meeting place and hub for social activity in Etobicoke. The walk leader was Cloverdale Common Ambassador Danielle Lenarcic Biss, who took her second steps in the mall and has been a mall patron ever since.

The walk saw 18 Community members young and old share their stories of yesterday’s Cloverdale and to contribute ideas for how Tomorrow’s Cloverdale can foster inter-generational connection, collaboration, and community.
