Backyard BBQ

Posted on: June 27, 2019

For me Canada Day has always been the unofficial kick-off to a fabulous summer of barbeques.  With my mind set on lazy weekends and picnics by the lake, it’s time for a classic backyard bbq.  You may not know but the Metro at Cloverdale has a butcher’s section which is great if your looking to try a new cut of meat, needing assistance with your selection or looking for tips and advice on cooking.  Choose from premium cut steaks, ribs and pork tenderloin.  They also have a great selection of kabobs that are ready to be thrown on the grill.  Try their chicken souvlaki, turkey breast and beef kabobs that are sure to satisfy all you guests.  What about guests that are vegetarian?  Metro has you covered with delish veggie kabobs to make sure you have something for everyone at your gathering.  Some will argue that the most important part of a bbq is the bbq sauce, which I must agree, a great sauce is essential.  Check out Newman’s line of sauces with flavours like original and hickory and my personal favourite, bourbon . . . YUM!  If you prefer to make your own sauce as opposed to store bought, pick up the ingredients while at Metro and try the recipe below for a finger lickin’ good sauce that all your guests will be raving about.

Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients:

  • ½ yellow onion, very finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. worcestshire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. dry mustard
  • 1/3 cup white or cider vinegar
  • 4 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. chilli powder

Preparation:

  1. Brown the onion and garlic in the oil over medium heat for 4 minutes.  Add the other ingredients.
  2. Mix well and season.
  3. Simmer until the marinade reaches the desired consistency.

Gather your friends and family and wave the red and white as you celebrate with delish BBQ this Canada Day.
