Advance To Go

As the holiday season approaches, gather the family together for a good old-fashioned board game night.  I enjoy hosting game nights throughout the year and much prefer a board game over grabbing a controller to play a video game.  I find that it’s much more engaging and brings people together.  I’ll take any excuse to play and the holidays are a perfect excuse to bring everyone together for some competitive fun.  Calendar Club, a seasonal favourite, for calendars, toys, puzzles and much more, has a vast array of board games to choose from.  Perfect if you are looking to pick up some classics or if you are looking to add a few new additions to your collection.

  • Uno is a great card game with a quick set up so you can start playing right away.  Match colours and numbers and watch out for special action cards and wild cards.  First player to reach 500 points wins the game.
  • Monopoly, truly a classic and one of my favourites.  Let me warn you, things can get quite heated as you make your way around the board acquiring properties but it is also a game that brings back a flood of childhood memories.
  • Rediscover the fun with the Cheaters Edition and Walking Dead themed versions.
  • Scrabble, another great classic.  As you rack up your letters and hope to land on a  triple-word score, this game will challenge you as you go head-to-head with your opponents.

Playing with children?  There are plenty of options available to choose from.

  • Jenga, stack the blocks in a sturdy tower and take turns pulling blocks one by one.  Keep a steady hand and don’t make the tower crash!
  • A favourite among the kiddos is SORRY!.  This is one I loved playing as a child, all the forwards, backwards and SORRY! cards added to the excitement.
  • CODENAMES is a great game for adults and older kids.  You and your allies must make contact with all your secret agents before the other team does.  There’s also a Harry Potter version of this game that I have my eye on and plan on adding to my collection this season.

Stop by Calendar Club, located beside The Source, on your next visit and see what fun-filled games you discover for your next game night.
